ABOUT COMPREHENSIVE CLEAN AIR ORDINANCES
Comprehensive smoke-free laws benefit the public by increasing places where people are protected from tobacco smoke, reducing the social acceptability of smoking and vaping, and motivating users to quit smoking or vaping.
Smoke-free laws are comprehensive when they prohibit smoking and vaping in all indoor areas of workplaces, restaurants, and bars. These laws are the most effective way to protect all workers from secondhand smoke exposure in the workplace, prioritizing their right to breathe clean air.
ABOUT A SMOKE-FREE PASO DEL NORTE INITIATIVE'S CLEAN INDOOR AIR EFFORTS
In 2002, El Paso became the first Texas city to adopt a Clean Indoor Air Ordinance. A Smoke-Free Paso del Norte, an initiative of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, spearheaded the movement by engaging partners across national and international borders to advocate for smoke-free ordinances and policies.
We continue our efforts to support other townships and municipalities in El Paso County to adopt and amend their ordinances prohibiting smoking and vaping in workplaces to foster clean air, reduce exposure to secondhand smoke exposure, and create healthier environments for all.
